8 Strategies for Dealing with Negative People

Negative people aren’t truly the most agreeable people to be around. Unfortunately, regardless of how positive you are, you may still end up drawing some negative people in your life. While some of them will have a transitory role to play and will disappear rather quickly, some will leech around and you will need to find a way to get rid of them. The things become little more challenging when the negative person is one of your friends or a family member. This means that sometimes you will have the option to get rid of the negative person and sometimes you will need to deal with them. Here are some strategies for you.

1) Never Argue With Negative People

One of the best things to deal with the negative people is to avoid any argument at all times. Negativity begets negativity. Arguing with the negative person does not good to them or you. Instead, they might suck you into their whirlpool of negativity. If you want to remain positive, let not their negativity rub off on you.

2) Show Empathy

Everyone experiences negativity at some point or another. Everyone goes through intractable circumstances that engender negativity. So, instead of cringing, try to understand where their negativity is coming from. Perhaps they just need a little support to get back to the positive way of life. Seeing things from the standpoint of the other person will also generate a feel good factor within you.

3) Lend your Shoulders

Negativity can be transformed into positivity with a little bit of help sometimes. Some people just need a shoulder to cry on and release their negativity. But you must also remember to make sure that you do not pick up too much of negativity released by them.

4) Change the Topic

Being the part of the talk laced with negativity can make you testy at times. However, instead of rebuking the other person, try to deflect the talk with the change of the topic. Try and switch to something more pleasing and light instead.

5) Ignore the Negativity

Sometimes you might not have the capacity to deal with the negative person because of your own state of mind or perhaps your engagements. If you are exposed to negativity in such a scenario, instead of reacting to it, simply ignore it.

6) Appreciate the person

One of the best ways to deal with negativity is by praising and appreciating the other person for their good things. This will not only help make them more positive, you will also feel good as the positive things will come out of your mouth.

7) Hang out in a Group

If the company of the negative person is inescapable, try to hang out when there are at least 3 or more people. This will ensure that all the negativity is not directed at you at all times.

8) Use Yoga and Meditation

It is more important to deal with negativity within than without. So, get involved in meditation and yoga. It will give you more strength to deal with the negativity and negative people in life.
